Rest Fest - Event Poster

 A poster desgined for a ficitional music event, with a theme of ambient electronic dance music.  Ambient and classical music can have significant overlap, so I took the musical idea of a ‘rest’ (moment where no music is played) and used that to drive the graphic direction. 

Sheet music symbols feature in the key art, event logo and collateral, including a full rest, 4/4 signature, forte and natural. A cool, calming colour palette was chosen to fit the theme. Times New Roman ties back to musical notation, and is ofset with a heavily kerned Helvetica to add punch and modernity.

Backing artwork was made in Illustrator with a combination of vector paths, and a tracing of one of my own photographs was used to create the intricate linework beneath. Type, logo and symbols were assembled in Indesign. Lightroom was used to tighten up the colours, add a subtle ‘shade’ mask above the logo, and a textural layer of film grain.
